In JIRA, how can we move one sub-task from one story to another? the solution is simple select the issue you need to change the parent.then navigate to more tab and select move option then there will be options to move sub-task to another parent issue. screenshot attached. doesnt work for me - this move option is not available for me.

Epics and regular issues are treated very differently by Jira.. these differences should be accounted for and managed when one performs a "move" action on a story to convert it to an Epic. Epics cannot be assigned to sprints from the backlog view. Stories can.

It is a jira issue as sub-tasks do not have the epic listed in their attribute The right query seems to be: project = DEMOPROJECT AND issuetype in (Story, Task, Sub-task) AND ("Epic Link" in (DEMOPROJECT-546, and so on ) OR "Parent Link" in (DEMOPROJECT-609 , and so on )) ORDER BY parent ASC, cf[10003] ASC, cf[10010] DESC, created DESC.
A subtask is a piece of work that is required to complete a task. Jira Software (software projects) issue types. By default, software projects come with one parent issue type: Epic. A big user story that needs to be broken down. Epics group together bugs, stories, and tasks to show the progress of a larger initiative.

Timeline view: Epic -> task -> subtask hierarchy. My team is using Jira Work Management as a project management tool and would like to see the tasks listed under their respective epics and subtasks under their respective tasks (in drop-downs) in the Timeline view. However, tasks and epics are currently not linked to each other in the Timeline view.

The built in issue hierarchy in Jira is. Epic > generic issues > Sub-tasks. where generic issues are Story, Bug, Task, etc. By default you can add additional issue types at the "generic issue" level, and you can add additional issues types at the Sub-tasks level, and the functionality for those new issue types will be the same as the other

Answer accepted. We can do this using Adaptavist ScriptRunner plugin to block creation of subtasks based on issuetype. Create a separate workflow for subtasks in your project. Add a 'simple scripted validator' on the subtask issue workflow create transition to block creation of subtasks for particular parent issue types.
I'm writing to inquire about automating an epic ticket with linked tasks within the epic ticket. I am specifically interested in utilizing smart values to link the tasks in a way that triggers the next task or designates the previous task as a prerequisite. Please see attached screenshots as reference (First screenshot is the current set up and
Dave Levine Oct 28, 2021. Here is what I want to do: I have two epics. I need to get one epic completed before the other. Both epics have start and end dates. After I have linked the epics and created a dependency, when I move the first epic further out, the epic that is dependent on it, does not update its start time.
Tiru Naidu Oct 02, 2023. There are two ways this can be achieved. 1)By clicking on the Epic, Story, Task, Sub task, bug, it will show the of change issue type and select the type and it get converted immediately. 2) on the right corner and click on move option, then select type and continue until the last step.
