Slim for two years, Super Slim for a little over a month. Top looks worse, overall it's still nice -- smaller and lighter than Slim. DS3 seems to be done from different material than older ones, but this may just be me. Only problem I had was that it was not able to work with 1.6m HDMI cable taken from Slim.
I've read from a few different places online that the superslim has a SATA 2 controller whereas the original PS3 and PS3 slim only have a SATA 1/1.5 controller. Anyone have any proof of this or is it just some weird rumour? The southbridge chip is identical across all Slims and Super Slims, so it won't have a better controller than the Slim as

When you buy it yes, but when you upgrade it tells you that everything on this "disk" is wiped out and deactivated. It runs exclusively on the new disk. Try remove the hhd and see what happens. There should be an os installed, otherwise if the HDD fails, you have a brick instead of a console.
PS3 fat was nicer than the (still attractive) Slim which was nicer than the vile Super Slim (shudders in horror). Only weird one is the PS4 which (IMHO) the Pro looked better than the original.
It is a key indicator of image quality, with higher resolutions providing sharper and more detailed images. Hard drive is replaceable. Sony PlayStation 3 40GB. Sony PlayStation 3 Super Slim 250GB. The internal hard drive can be replaced by the user, for example if you wish to upgrade to a larger storage capacity.
The Super Slim being top loaded means it's not ideal for a narrow shelf. The Slim is however a bit larger, heavier and less energy efficient. In my personal opinion, the difference between Slim and Super Slim is not a big deal. I never regretted buying a Super Slim after getting rid of the regular Slim even though I slightly prefer the latter.

I'm planning on buying a PS3 in the upcoming weeks/months. Collection-wise, I know that a PS3 Fat is better but I'm already decided on buying either a Slim or a SuperSlim. Imo the PS3 Slim looks better but I've had one and was pretty unlucky with that (stopped working correctly after a few months after buying it used).

w h a t. only like 10% of all fats are backwards compatible. take backwards compatible out the equation and the super slim is better in literally every single way. like literally factually better. came with bigger hard drives. better disk drives. less power usage.
