Sorry to do a newbie post as a problem / question - but pretty much fed up with an intermittent problem on my Focus! Purchased as an ex lease car 3 weeks ago, came with service history but had it in to my local garage the day after purchase for a service which included fuel filter change.

This should be the Peugeot 1.6HDI diesel, if it's the same setup as the Peugeots and Citroens there should be a black plunger in between injectors 2 and 3 on the cylinder head that you push until you feel resistance, then hold the throttle down at 3/4 travel and start the engine until it runs.

Getting the air out of the system can be a pig. A good priming bulb fitted in the fuel line before the fuel filter is one way. Undo the air vent on the filter, and pump until fuel come out, do up the vent, then pump hard for some time. Start the engine with the primer still in line. Keep pumping if it stops.

I have a 2008 ford focus TDCI 1.6. The engine malfunction alert was coming on in it so I brought it to a mechanic to plug it in. The fault that was coming up was the fuel pressure sensor. I then went to the ford dealer to be told I have to buy the complete rack, which cost €360 not including fitting! I see the fuel sensor is only €80 online. Last year my Ford Focus Mk 2 1.6TDCi reached the grand old age of 130,000 miles and I decided to change the timing belt and other ancillaries (using Ford parts). I followed the Haynes instructions and all seemed to go fine. They like a nice clean filter!! Oh and good fuel. Not correct,,, the dpf will cause problems if most of the driving you do is 'town' driving, or short journeys, this prevents the dpf from reaching operating temp, hence not hot enough to burn off deposits, and will eventually clog up. xO1R2.
