QD-OLED displays utilize quantum dots and organic materials to produce images. Unlike LED displays, QD-OLEDs are self-emitting and do not require a backlight. This results in a thinner, lighter, and more energy-efficient display. Additionally, QD-OLEDs have a faster response time and better contrast than LED displays.Discussion. I recently acquired a pretty decent TV. At least, so I thought. I was upgrading from a ridiculously cheap 4K toshiba with terrible specs I bought in 2015, and somehow, this is worse. The TV is a Samsung Neo QLED 4K 50QN93B, which is touted as one of the best TV's to get right now. The "faux" HDR with the zones of backlighting is
"Direct lit" is much better than edge lit, but it's still very limited. Usually only meaning 1 to 3 lines of LEDs lighting the screen. Full array backlit panels have a whole panel of LEDs that light the screen. Local dimming isn't usually found on "direct lit" but local dimming is usually tremendously effective on full array panels.
Later “Direct-Lit” LED TVs came out where the LEDs were spread evenly behind the LCD panel, but they could not be individually controlled and usually there were less than 100. These offered better performance. Full-Array LED TVs then entered the market with hundreds of LEDs behind the LCD panel. And better yet, this technology allowed forYou may also find some models labelled with Direct-lit LED panels. This tech is like full array LEDs but without the local dimming feature. Most LED TVs these days come with an IPS panel, but when looking for gaming monitors, you may also come across VA panels. VA panels offer greater levels are contrast but have poor viewing angles. QLED/LCD TVs, even the best ones with the most effective full-array local dimming, let some light through, leading to more washed-out, grayer black levels and blooming around bright sections. QLED Full Array Dimming Reviewed by Tech Experts “This generation is full array LED backlighting which not only makes the display noticeably brighter but also allows the TV to precisely control the lighting to preserve contrast and minimize light bleeding.”
