The Avia S.199 was a Czech version of the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-14 manufactured at previously German-controlled factories from the Messerschmitt blueprints. The standard airframe was combined with the only available engine, the Jumo 211F, and so the result differed from the original German design by having a larger engine cowling. Auster Model Q - Auster T7 - two-seat trainer version of AOP6. Auster Model S - AOP aircraft based on AOP6 with enlarged tail, prototype only.
The next night, another S-199 arrived in a C-46. The following night, a third S-199 arrived in the C-54. The Israelis decided to name the S-199 the “Knife,” or Shakeen, in Hebrew. On May 23, the first loss was suffered when two C-46s - one carrying bombs and the other the fourth S-199 - flew in from Zatec.
The S-199 looks cool but I wonder what BR it will be and how effective it will be with it's limited high alt engine. To supply Israel, the manufacturer Avia used parts and plans leftover from Bf 109 production to build the S-199. Though it was based on the Bf 109G, the S-199 had a critical weakness. The Bf 109's powerful Daimler-Benz engine that made it such a deadly fighter was unavailable and Avia only had the Junkers Jumo bomber engine to power the S-199.
